What power do you think each car will make to the wheels?
I’m guessing 240 for the Corvette and 42 for the Datsun.
The specs!
1970 Corvette
Factory rated at 350 hp and 380 lb/ft
headers and sidepipes
Lumpy cam of unknown origin
94,000 miles on it
1968 Datsun
Factory rated at 96 hp and some torque
Headers and muffler delete
Screen door air filters for max hp
Unknown mileage

250.
8 1/2.

I say the Vette does 275 and the Datsun does 62

250 for the vette and 50 for the datsun

127 & 39

Quite the optimist haha

201 for the Corvette (The Corvette was rated via BS SAE gross system, pretty much they just lied about how much power it made)
47 for the Datsun.

I am a optimist, now go buy my shirt lol
![]() 07/13/2017 at 12:29 |

205 for the Vette, 28 for the Datsun
![]() 07/13/2017 at 12:34 |
|
I’m guessing 300 for the Corvette and 82 for the Datsun!
![]() 07/13/2017 at 12:34 |

300! That would be nice.
![]() 07/13/2017 at 12:35 |

Smart. Everyone forgets that gross ratings are 20% optimistic.
![]() 07/13/2017 at 12:36 |

Assuming you mean WHP?
Corvette. I think you said the engine was just rebuilt, so with the lumpy cam should be over factory hp.
310whp/340tq
Datsun. 50 years of abuse. Well-flowing setup. On an engine that seems to have serious issues.
55whp

That factory rating for the ‘Vette was gross so the net at the time was probably less than 300 and then rear wheel power was probably 270 or so. So I’m going for 245 for the Corvette. The same thing for the Datsun so I’m guessing 45 for it.

69 for the Datsun.
Can’t think of a sexual number for the Vette.
![]() 07/13/2017 at 12:42 |

Yup! Roller dyno. I’m excited to see what they make!
![]() 07/13/2017 at 12:48 |

Every corvette dyno number is sexy
![]() 07/13/2017 at 12:48 |

Also, if it’s a Mustang dyno:
300/330
50
![]() 07/13/2017 at 12:48 |

Ouch! 28? Man, that’s Fiat 500 territory.
![]() 07/13/2017 at 12:49 |
|
I’m gonna guess 270hp for the Corvette and 68hp for the Datsun.
![]() 07/13/2017 at 12:51 |

But, the CV is down one power steering pump and up one lumpy cam (and a rebuild). I didn’t know about the gross HP thing but I’d still say high 200's whp.

Bad memories of my 86 Nissan Pulsar, when it was smoking and down a cylinder it’s top speed was about 40.
![]() 07/13/2017 at 12:55 |

Are those factory numbers net or gross?
![]() 07/13/2017 at 12:58 |
|
The grossest.
![]() 07/13/2017 at 12:59 |

Dynojet 224x apparently.

You forgot the 45 years. It takes a toll too, as I well can feel every morning.

The fresh rebuilt should take it very close to stock though, just on it’s own.
![]() 07/13/2017 at 13:45 |

315whp/350tq
And before somebody says Oh gee wowie net vs gross blah blah
Yeah, well, don’t forget that 60's exhaust manifolds were basically designed to be cheap, durable, and get hot gasses from A to B. That’s it.
Headers and exhaust will make a big difference.
![]() 07/13/2017 at 13:45 |

Good points. You could very well be right. It’s hard to know how well everything is sealed up without going through it so it’s hard to really narrow down the range it will be in other than “probably between 200 and 300".

I’m with Smallbear on this, but I’ll play the Price is Right rules with 311 and 56 respectively.
![]() 07/13/2017 at 14:07 |
|
Zora Arkus Duntov himself said that headers and sidepipes are worth 75 HP on a 427 Corvette. Tune that down a bit for a 350 but headers make a big difference.
![]() 07/13/2017 at 14:18 |

Same with the ZL1 Camaros. The stock exhaust was very bad.
![]() 07/13/2017 at 15:30 |

immona guess on the high side for the corvette......380 hp...... for the datsun 81 hp......
![]() 07/13/2017 at 15:44 |
|
42 for the Datsun because 42 is the answer.
269 for the Corvette - I was going to say 256, but you did remove the power steering.
![]() 07/13/2017 at 20:06 |
|
222 at the wheels for the corvette, 44 for the Datsun
![]() 07/13/2017 at 21:00 |
|
I’ll go around 200 for the Vette.
And an optimistic 60 for the Datsun.
![]() 07/14/2017 at 03:22 |
|
Hmmm, i’m going to say you’re bang on with the Corvette but the Datsun will be 65whp. The Japanese were less...creative than the Americans with gross numbers ;)
